A Program of Leadership Texarkana

Texas A&M University-Texarkana and Texarkana College Partner in Nursing Program

We salute the leadership of Texas A&M University-Texarkana and Texarkana College for their proactive plans–through an innovative scholarship program–to encourage and support nursing students in seamlessly pursuing their nursing education here in Texarkana, from TC Associate status to a BSN from TAMU-T.

TC nursing students earning an Associate Degree in Nursing are now eligible to receive a $4,000 scholarship to TAMU-T if they enroll in the BSN program for this fall 2021 semester.

“We are very excited about this partnership,” TC President Dr. Jason Smith said. “We need people to be able to take care of our people when they’re sick, and this partnership’s going to allow us to keep those students here locally and get them educated here locally.”

TC’s Dean of Health Sciences, Courtney Shoalmire, says, “It is excellent that we are going to have this program so that local students can continue their education without having to move to another location or spend their money and tuition outside of our local economy.”

TAMU-T President Dr. Emily Cutrer: “Because of financial problems associated with COVID, the legislature cut [that] funding just a little bit ago. In this last legislative session, we went back and said, ‘Please, we really are in need.’ And they restored our funding so that we could continue to deliver what is most important to us — a high quality program that meets the needs of our region.”
